As I mentioned in my previous blog post complete with examples, I'm starting a new series.  This is using pigment sticks, which is oil paint in stick form.  I bought them back in 2014/2015 and used them a bit then but they have sat taking up real estate here at the Rich Artist studio ever since.  I finally broke them out again and am glad I did!

This is a 24x30 of a photogenic Hereford.  It  is in progress, but so far I am happy with it!  She will command a presence in any room!

Because the painting is so large it will be difficult to see, but all of it so far is done with the paint sticks.  Once it is dry I will go in and finish with oil and brush work.  The paint sticks are rich and buttery, and if you are using more than one color in an area, which is common, you can't help but have visible marks from the raised sections of paint.  I like how easy it is to be expressive with the sticks too.
